Reviewed in the United States on March 7,
I received the QQ-S printer last weekend, thus adding a fifth printer to my shop. The video instructions included are “okay”, however a novice might not know to open the base to switch the power supply. There exist numerous documentation issues, one of which deals with the power supply which is /v rather than /v as described. Once assembled printer would not “Home”, as one stepper literally locked-up when power was directed to it as the other two proceeded to executed the code. Although the Amazon advertisement states that customer support is always available, I soon learned differently. The instructions provide that if there is a problem, contact the seller for a support contact, or email FLSUN directly. I did both.
Amazon had no contact information to provide and chose to send me a new machine. Yeah, another unpacking, assemble and disassembly to correct the problem. I reached out to FLSUN via email inquiring if this was the most practical solution to the problem.
On Monday, I received a response to my description of the problem from FLSUN suggesting that I switch the power supply to v. It further stated that I could Skype my problem. This presumptive response neither addressed my problem or even represents what would happen if I had not switch the power to v. I received a new machine that afternoon from Amazon, assembled it, disassembled the defective machine and packed it up. Fortunately, the new machine” Homed” and” Auto-leveled” as it should. That is a far as I’ve used it as of this writing since something like velco tape needs to be added to each column to hold back the wiring for Z-stop switches (the wires are very thin, unprotected, and reside next to each belt). However, my experience with FLSUN to date warrants this review.
As a follow-up, I have sent four more emails including my order number to FLSUN requesting information about my purchase concerning: how one should communicate with them other than Skype as emails don’t seem to work; availability of typical replacement parts like belts as well as the documentation to replaced them (these belts are unique from typical Cartesian printer belts); and which modifications void the one-year warranty (which may be worthless). Regarding the latter point, the FLSUN video solution for a hotend issue involves cutting wires to replace the heater and thermistor, normally a warranty voiding activity. With each email, I offered that I was awaiting their response before posting my review.
Four business days in China has advanced, and still no response from FLSUN. Sadly, this is likely indicative of their warranty practices. My conclusion, save your packaging and be glad you bought from Amazon. Amazon’s return policy and customer service is meant for products like this.
UPDATE: When I was preparing to place some straps on the Z-stop wiring on the replacement maching to ensure the belts did not rub against them, I notice a light whisper sound coming from the unit, which was off. I discovered that a fan was running inside the base whenever the unit was plugged in although not turned on. When I unplug the printer, you can hear the fan accelerate briefly as the capacitor discharges. Since operating 3D printers can extend for many hours at a time, I’m quite unsure about the safety of one that operates when turned off. Since I cannot get any support from FLSUN, I’m returning this unit as well and will add a fifth machine from a more reputable manufacturer.
