Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams

Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.

Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

This issue might arise due to drover conflict. Hence I suggest you to try the following and check if it helps.

Refer,

www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar

If the issue persists, disconnect the speaker and uninstall the drivers from your PC. Once you have uninstalled the drivers, follow the steps below.

Note: Ghost devices are the previously installed devices which are not connected but the drivers for that device is still present in the computer and sometimes shows in the devices list.

To get rid of unwanted drivers, devices, or services, use the following steps:

  1. Open the Start menu.

  2. Swipe to the upper right corner to bring charm bar.

  3. Type cmd in search box.

  4. Select cmd from the displayed list, right click and Open as administrator.

  5. At the command prompt, type in set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and press Enter.

(Note that nothing seems to happen. This is expected. You are actually setting an environment variable which is going to help you to see hidden devices.)

  1. On the next command prompt line, type www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar and press Enter. This will launch the Windows Device Manager Console.

  2. In the Device Manager Console, from the View menu, select Show Hidden Devices.

As you expand the different drivers and devices in the device manager, you will see not only the items that Windows currently detects as installed on your PC; but you will also see drivers, devices, and services which have been loaded in the past but were not uninstalled or are not currently started. You can find your offending device, right-click, and choose uninstall to remove it from the system completely.

Note that ghost devices, drivers, and services are “grayed” out, but that does not necessarily mean that you should delete all of them. Only remove items you know you do not need. Be careful that you do not change too many devices.

Once you have removed the ghost drivers completely from the system, try to reinstall the drivers for the speaker by reconnecting the speaker and check if the issue persists.

Hope this information was helpful.

Regards,
Sahil Bali

Dear Sahil,

thank you very much for your suggestions -- I followed them, unfortunately without success.

I downloaded the hotfix at

www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar

as you suggested, and ran it.

A window "Windows Update Standalone Installer" opened and kept going for almost an hour before it said:

Windows Update Standalone Installer

The update is not applicable to your computer.

I had earlier removed the Bluetooth speaker from the 'Bluetooth Devices' and had followed your detailed instructions (cmd) to remove drivers (I removed everything in the Bluetooth folder).

I then newly added the Bluetooth device.

The message I got was

This device has been successfully added to this computer. Windows is now checking for drivers and will install them is necessary. You may need to wait for this to finish before your device is ready to use.

A status message appeared on the lower right of the computer screen and clicking on it opened a window. I waitied till all 8 items came with a green checkmark:

Driver Software Installation

Installing device driver software

Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM6)

Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM7)

+ 6 more

I then right-cliked the Bluetooth device, "Control," and got the message

Bluetooth Device control

This operation failed to initialize. Try again after turning off the Bluetooth device and then turning it back on. If the operation again fails to initialize, try again after restarting this computer.

I clicked on the loudspeaker symbol at the bottom right of the screen

Volume Control Options

shows the Speakers Bluetooth Hands-free Audio

Then I went to

Playback devices

Speakers Bluetooth Hands-free Audio has a downward red arrow next to it and says “Disconnected.”  Right-click “Connect” has no effect.

I am back at square 1. The Bluetooth speaker is not working.

Would you have any further advice?

Thanks,

Carsten
