How to fix Fortnite download problems on PC
Many PC users are frustrated at the horrendously slow download speeds they receive when downloading Fortnite through the Epic Games launcher. For some people, the download gets stuck at any random percentage. Although Epic Games havent commented on whether theyre working on this issue, theres a workaround to it which this guide covers. Youll be playing Fortnite in no time.
Fortnite has hit the peak of its popularity. The Battle-Royale themed game came out a few months ago and became an instant hit. It allows multiple players to play online with each other. The game is known as a Battle Royale which features a hundred players, whoevers the last man standing wins. Due to its immense popularity, Fortnite has attracted a lot of peoples attention. This is also because of the fact that the game is completely free and it has low PC requirements, therefore anyone can download and play it.
However, since a lot of people now want to download the game, it seems that the load is too much for Epic Games servers because of which users suffer from low download speeds. Its not just people who want to download the game from scratch. Fortnite frequently gets updates, so those who need to update the game also get stuck downloading updates leading to a lot of frustration.
If youre stuck downloading Fortnite through Epic Games launcher then look no further, this guide will help you download Fortnite faster. According to Epic Games, the problem arises due to: your router struggling with the number of connections due to too many downloads happening simultaneously.
Follow these steps to workaround this problem:
You need to first navigate to the AppData folder in your Local Disk C, the path for which should be something along the lines of Computer> Local Disc (C:)> Users> [your username]> AppData> Local> EpicGamesLauncher> Saved> Config> Windows.
Keep in mind that the AppData folder under default settings is hidden, therefore, youll need to change a few settings in order to see it. To see it, do this:
- Open up Windows Explorer, click Organize
- Select Folder and search options
- Now, under the view tab, locate Hidden files and folders
- Select Show hidden folders, files, and drives and Apply changes.
Note that these instructions are for Windows users, for Mac users, your directory should look something like ~/Library/Preferences/Unreal Engine/EpicGamesLauncher/Mac. This directory may also be hidden. Therefore, in order to access it, go to Folder and paste the path given above in the text box to locate the folder.
Now that youve found the folder, open the file named Engine. Note: before you open the file, go to its properties and uncheck the Read-only option because if the file is read-only you wont be able to edit it. Once the file is open, go to the end of the file and add the following code there:
[www.cronistalascolonias.com.aratch] ChunkDownloads=3
Save the changes and close the file. Now restart the launcher and try again, your download should not be stuck at some arbitrary percentage anymore. If you still have issues then change the ChunkDownloads value to 2 or 1 and try that.
If things still dont become better, then instead of the code given above, follow all the steps above and insert this piece of code at the end of the file:
[HTTP] HttpTimeout=10 HttpConnectionTimeout=10 HttpReceiveTimeout=10 HttpSendTimeout=10 [www.cronistalascolonias.com.aratch] ChunkDownloads=3ChunkRetries=20
RetryTime=
Save, and restart your launcher (run as an administrator). Your download speeds should be significantly better than before. Both solutions work and if none of them work, your best bet is to contact Epic Games to resolve your issue. However, this solution usually solves the problem so you dont have to have a long troubleshooting session with Epic Games.
