How to download old macos versions

There are only a few explanations as to why you need to download and install old versions of Mac OS X or macOS. You can rely on a software program that has been found not to work properly in the latest model. Perhaps you&#;re using an old software program that requires Rosetta, Apple&#;s answer for translating PowerPC apps after the Intel transition, or you just don&#;t like the new MacOS model you&#;ve introduced.

Another situation is that you are a developer and want to use a number of versions of Mac OS X to make sure your software program is working on it. In both cases you have questions and we now have solutions.

In this article, we&#;ll focus on how to get old versions of Mac OS X along with El Capitan, Sierra, Yosemite, and more &#; or how to get the installer so you can possibly install the software on your Mac. We have a separate article for inserting old versions of Mac OS X.

Where can I download old macOS?

Before you can possibly install an older model of macOS or Mac OS X, you must first download the installer for the model of macOS that you want to install. Unfortunately, getting this data is probably not as easy as you might hope.

Depending on the MacOS model you&#;re using, you should be able to find older versions of Mac OS X (and MacOS) in the Mac App Store. However, these are unlikely to be accessible to you if you are using a more recent model of the Mac operating system.

Before macOS Mojave was introduced in , the installers for the older versions of macOS were discovered on the &#;Purchased&#; tab, provided you &#;bought&#; them (not that someone really had to pay for a Mac OS X replacement for years ).

When Apple Mojave launched, the Mac App Store was changed and these installers can only be downloaded from the shop if you may be using an old model of macOS / macOS X.

However, this is doable and we&#;ll guide you through completely different strategies for downloading old versions of Mac OS X from the Mac App Store. We&#;ll show you how to get the next Mac OS X installers:

How to download the Mojave installer

Despite the fact that Mojave updates are provided through software updates, you may still be able to download the installer from the Mac App Store even if you use Catalina

You can download macOS Mojave from this link.

1. Click on this link. This will open the Mac App Store on the Mojave website.
2. Click on Get.
3. The software replacement is opened with the &#;Find update&#; records. Finally, the message &#;Are you sure you want to download macOS Mojave ?&#; Appears. It could be a .6 replacement or higher. However, you will find from the download measurement (just over 6 GB) that this is the entire installer for Mojave.
4. After downloading the installer, do not click Install. The installation program can be removed automatically by the installation.
5. You should be able to find the Install macOS Mojave app in your application folder. You have them for the next steps we define here: downgrading macOS, inserting an older model into your Mac.

How to download the High Sierra installer

Download High Sierra here.

When we updated this article, it was also possible to add the High Sierra Installer to the Mac App Store using this link. Since Catalina arrived, the installer can no longer be downloaded using Catalina.

In this case, you want to find a Mac that works with an older model of macOS, log in to the Mac App Store with your password, and download the High Sierra installer. Or ask a friend to download a replica of the installer for you from the Mac App Store.

Do not install it as described above once it has been downloaded! This will remove the installer. You can find the installer in your application folder.

Be careful not to download the installer from a file sharing website as you are not sure if it is safe. It is safest to say, just do not.

It might also be possible to download the installer from the terminal, but we were unable to get this technology to work.

More updates for the old macOS model can be found here on the Apple website. However, they are only level updates to replace the overall model. Therefore, in the event that you try, this is not very helpful. For example, get the full download of High Sierra.

How to download the Sierra installer

In , when Apple launched MacOS High Sierra, Sierra removed Sierra from the list of purchased products, making it more difficult to revert to this earlier model. However, it was entirely possible to download the Sierra installer from this link provided by Apple.

The link leads you to a website for macOS Sierra. However, if you use Mojave, when trying to download it you will get an &#;Update not found&#; error. We were able to download the installer on older versions of MacOS. So, as above, find a friend who doesn&#;t run Mojave.

Download Mavericks, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mountain Lion and Lion

On a computer running OS X Yosemite, versions of Mac OS X can be viewed in the Mac App Store. Yosemite, Mavericks and Mountain Lion can be seen here.

If you find a Mac that works in High Sierra or earlier, log in to the Mac App Store and download the installer as described below.

It is important to know that you will only see old versions of Mac OS X that you have just downloaded under &#;Purchased&#;. If you never downloaded them (or if they weren&#;t in the Mac App Store), this model is not in your purchased part. Another reason why the Mac OS X model may also be missing is because your computer comes here with this model. We&#;ll think about this situation later.

Here&#;s how to get an older model of Mac OS X from the Mac App Store (this only works if you&#;ve downloaded it before and not if you&#;ve already installed it in Mojave or Catalina):

1. Open the Mac App Store (choose Store> Sign In if you want to sign in).
2. Click Bought.
3. Scroll down to find the specified copy of OS X or macOS.
4. Click Install

If you click Install, the software program is not actually inserted. However, the software you have set up will likely be downloaded to your application folder.

You can&#;t just install this older model of the work system directly on a Mac with a newer model of OS X or macOS. We&#;ll clarify how to install it on a Mac &#; along with 1, which currently has an earlier working system: how to install old versions of Mac OS X.

Can&#;t find Mac OS X in Purchased?

If you downloaded the macOS model earlier but you don&#;t see it in the purchased part, there may be a few things you can try:

1. Log out of the App Store and log in again.
2. If you downloaded it while signing in to a special Apple ID (possibly a work-related 1), sign in with that ID.
3. You may find someone who has downloaded this model of Mac operating system and ask them to download the setup file for you.

If you haven&#;t downloaded the Mac OS X model at all, go to step 3 and find a pleasant 1 that did so. Ask them to download the Mac OS X installer for you.

Fortunately, the copy of OS X should not be tied to your account so it can be saved on any Mac.

All you shouldn&#;t actually do is go to a torrent website and download a replica of the OS X you need. Don&#;t assume it&#;s easy to just make a replica, as Apple makes a gift for its software program completely free. Pirated copies of the Apple software program may have been modified to allow hackers to access the software program and your Mac.

How to get OS X Snow Leopard

It is possible that the specified Mac OS X model was not available in the Mac App Store. This is the case with Snow Leopard &#; the main model of Mac OS X that comes with the Mac App Store.

Downloading Mac OS X updates and new apps started with Snow Leopard, meaning that anyone with a Mac running Mac OS X Leopard or earlier cannot enter the Mac App Store to download anything.

The good news is that Apple continues to promote a boxed version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard Here for £ (when it launched in it cost £ 25). In the case of Snow Leopard, you get a body field with an optical disc. So you want a CD / DVD drive to install it (which you&#;ll probably have when the Mac is that old).

How to get OS X Lion, Mountain Lion

In addition to buying Snow Leopard on the Apple website, you can also get copies of Lion and Mountain Lion from Apple.

You may be able to go to the developer section of the website. However, only enter secure software program downloads if your Apple ID is related to a paid Apple Developer Program.

If you have not yet signed up as an Apple Developer, you can find out what this means here. It costs £ 79 ($ 99) per 12 months to be part of the Apple Developer Program and you must sign a nondisclosure agreement.
