One “tiny” complaint

Ok, so this app is great if you just wanna listen to music, which I like to do. So I opened the app, and it asked my if I wanted to start my free trial. I said no, because I wanted to save it. Then I exited the app because I didn’t want to use it yet. So that happened yesterday, and when I went on the app today, it said my free trial was ending soon. I checked if I had Premium, and apparently I did. Why did it give me Premium? I didn’t want to use the free trial yet. When I had YT Music on my old iPad, it let me choose when I wanted to use the free trail. And the “Try Premium today” thing doesn’t have a exit button. The only thing you can do is press the button, or exit the app. Apparently both result in YT Premium now, so either it’s a glitch, or on purpose. Anyway, beside this wall of one complaint, the app is pretty good. I like how you can shuffle the playlist and it recommends you more songs. Well, have a good day.

Inexcusably bad

I don’t even know where to start with just how buggy and unusable this app and YT Music is overall. It’s not a step down from Google Play - it’s ten steps down. GP worked flawlessly, you could edit metadata (like artwork), stream through your Sonos for FREE and it has/had a simple User interface.
YTM has none of that and it’s simply inexcusable. All they had to do was rebrand GPM and call it a day. Instead, we get an app that is so frustrating to use. Plug it in CarPlay and you don’t get a “most recent” screen like every, single other music app gives you. You have to manually navigate to what you want. If you want to start up where you left off before, you have to use the app on the phone and make at least 3 clicks to get to your recent album/songs.
It also doesn’t remember your playback settings. If you click on “repeat” for an album, it will usually stop by the second play. If you don’t have repeat on and you’re at the last song of an album, hitting the |> button won’t take you back to the first track. Again, that is just BASIC functionality.
If you want to stream your library through your Sonia system? Well, with GP it was free. Now? You have to pay for the /mo upgrade fee for YTM “Premium.” No thanks, Google. You don’t take away a free service and give us an inferior one as a replacement and have the gall to charge people for it.

Basic features are a failure

I truly don't understand how this app is rated so well. It fails in the most basic of ways, making using it a continually frustrating experience. When viewing Library by Artist, instead of showing the Albums by that artist like every music app ever, including Google Play Music, it just lists all the songs by that artist. "YT Music" and "Uploads" are separated when. Looking at your library, so you have to look in two different places to see all the content from a single artist. Loop preference does not persist between queues, so when you start a new album or playlist, if you want it to loop, you have to select that EACH TIME. You can view Downloads just fine if you have service, but if you're in a low service area, the app will just sit at a loading screen forever, blocking access to everything, unless you turn on airplane mode. It's a mess. The only marginal improvement on Google Play Music has been consistent album art when in offline mode (it'd just disappear in GPM for some reason). This app needs SO MUCH WORK and seems to have been designed by a team that has never worked on this type of app before, or simply doesn't get UX at all. Being forced to replace GPM with this is incredibly frustrating.
