Adrian Frutiger is the designer of Avenir font family. When he was 16, he was really into type design, which later made him develop a number of typefaces of his own such as Univers, Frutiger.  But one stood out from the rest &#; Avenir.

Avenir was released in by Linotype GmbH (Gotham font was released in ). It takes inspiration from the geometric style of sans-serif typeface which came out in the s. A lot of effort went into Avenir. And so Adrian Frutiger has described Avenir as his finest work.

It was the hardest typeface I have worked on in my life. Working on it, I always had human nature in mind. And what&#;s crucial is that I developed the typeface alone, in peace and quite &#; no drafting assistants, no-one was there. My personality is stamped upon it. I&#;m proud that I was able to create Avenir.
