Career[edit]

In , on a polar trip to document leopard seals, a female leopard seal attempted to care for him by bringing him live, then dead, penguins. He believes the seal "realized that I was just this useless predator in her ocean and probably going to starve to death. And I think she became quite panicked and she started to [show] me how to eat the penguins." [4]
Nicklen was a speaker at TED His talk, "Tales of Ice-Bound Wonderlands",[5] focused on disappearing sea ice as a result of climate change and global warming.
In , Nicklen, together with modern conservation photography pioneer Cristina Mittermeier, co-founded SeaLegacy, an organization that uses visual storytelling and photography to further the cause of ocean conservation.
In April , Paul Nicklen opened up the Paul Nicklen Gallery in SoHo, New York City, as a space for conservationist photographers and other artists to participate in the fine art scene.
