PCA NATIONAL AWARDS, NATIONAL CONTESTS, COMPETITION AND AWARD WINNERS OVERVIEW The Awards Chair, within the Parade Committee, is responsible to the Club and the PCA Executive Council (EC) for the solicitation, data compilation, and presentation to the EC of all the nominations for: The Lazar-Blanchard Memorial Trophy (PCA Enthusiast of the Year) The Ferry Porsche Trophy (PCA Region of the Year) The Porsche (PCA) Family of the Year Award The PCA Public Service Awards The Awards Chair also assists the PCA Newsletter and the Website Chairs, as well as the Zone Representatives in presentation of their awards While at Parade, the Awards Chair compiles the data to determine the winner of The President's Award (The PCA Region with the most members traveling the longest distance to Parade) and the Parade Long Distance Award and works closely with the Master of Ceremonies to facilitate presentation of all National and Parade Awards. Throughout the year, the Awards Chair will provide information to all Region Presidents and Zone Representatives about the awards. About January 1st of each year, the Awards Chair will solicit nominations from the Region Presidents and Zone Representatives for The Ferry Porsche Region of the Year, The Lazar-Blanchard Memorial Enthusiast of the Year, The Porsche (PCA) Family of the Year and the PCA Public Service awards. The solicitation encourages Presidents to nominate and submit entries for these four national honors and provides guidelines for the nominations. The solicitation also provides a due date for submission of nominations, normally March 1st. See Guidelines for Submitting Nominations (below). After the nominations are received, the Awards Chair formats the nominations so that each competes with one another on an impartial basis. The goal is to submit nominations to the EC for their review by May 1st, but not later than June 1st. The Award Chair participates with the EC to determine the recipients of the award. During the discussions, the Awards Chair provides additional information and may make recommendations, if requested, but does not have a vote to determine the recipients. The Awards Chair is also responsible for coordinating with PCA National Headquarters and others to arrange for transportation of all permanent (perpetual) national award trophies to the Parade site. The perpetual trophies are those original trophies for the various National and Parade awards that are presented to the recipients. The recipients may retain the perpetual awards, but must return them to PCA prior to the next Parade for refurbishing and engraving. The recipients are also awarded a keeper trophy. The Awards Chair works with the approved PCA vendor to design and procure these keeper trophies to be awarded to the winners at each Parade. During the week of Parade, the Awards Chair also assists the EC and the Parade Emcee in the presentation of all National and Parade awards. The Awards Chair also assists the Trophy Chair as needed, in the organization of all Parade trophies. Those include: The four (4) National Group Concours Trophies The Hoffman Rally Trophy The Woolery Navigational Trophy The Parade Autocross trophies (Fastest Time of Day, Men's & Women's) The Parade Technical & Historic Quiz Trophies (Highest Scores, Men's & Women's) The Zone Representatives' Award (when presented) Other national awards, within this Section, which are administered by other Committees: The Membership Awards Competition 1 PCA NATIONAL AWARDS, NATIONAL CONTESTS, COMPETITION AND AWARD WINNERS

The Betty Jo Turner Award for Newsletter Excellence Contest/ The Heinmiller Award The Region and Zone Website Contest President's Parade Trophy Long Distance Award Excellence in Concours Restoration Honorary Concours Judges Award Concours People's Choice Award Concours People's Choice Award-Historic Porsche Display More details on all National Awards, nomination procedures, prior winners (including Regions), can now be found at www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar Guidelines for submitting nominations for The Region of the Year, The PCA Family of the Year, The Enthusiast of the Year, and PCA Public Service Awards: Throughout the year, the Awards Chair will provide updates to Region Presidents and Zone Representatives about the National Awards and the awards process. It is to the Region's advantage to start planning their nominations well in advance. An Awards Committee or the Region Awards Chair could start collecting the data necessary for any submissions. When the solicitations for the awards are sent out, it is much easier to prepare the submissions, rather than having to amass all the information in short amount of time. Only ACTIVE and FAMILY ACTIVE members, as defined in the PCA Bylaws, who are in good standing, can be nominated for a national award. And as has been the case in the past, National Staff members are not eligible for nomination. About January 1st, the Awards Chair will solicit nominations from all Region Presidents and Zone Representatives for the Ferry Porsche Trophy (PCA Region of the Year), the Porsche Family of the Year Award, Lazar-Blanchard Memorial Trophy (PCA Enthusiast of the Year) and the PCA Public Service Awards. The solicitation is by and will include details of the nomination guidelines for each award. The nominations are to be submitted to the Awards Chair no later than March 1. However, this date may be changed depending on when Parade is scheduled during the year. Each nomination is submitted in narrative form and can include newsletter articles and photographs to support the nomination. The nominations for the Porsche Family of the Year Award, Lazar Blanchard Memorial Trophy (PCA Enthusiast of the Year) and the PCA Public Service Awards should not exceed 1, words and can include two newsletter articles and five photographs. Nominations for the Ferry Porsche Trophy (PCA Region of the Year) are limited to 3, words and must include two complete newsletters. An additional five (5) photographs may accompany this nomination. Regions should recognize that while historical information is always important, all nominations should focus on what the nominee/nominees accomplished during the year immediately preceding the Parade at which the award is presented. The PCA National Executive Council urges each Region to submit nominations for the various national awards and stresses that nominating a member, family or your Region, itself is one of the best ways to recognize the nominees for their service to their Region, their community and PCA. Even if the nominees are not the winner, the fact that the Region took the time and effort to nominate someone, is recognition in of itself. Submissions are preferred in Microsoft Word format. However other formats such www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar files are acceptable. Nominations that are submitted in another format must also include a Microsoft Word copy of the narrative. This Awards Chair is on the National Parade Committee. For any questions, or for more information, contact the National Parade Committee Chair or the Awards Chair, both of whom are listed in the back of PANORAMA under AnyQuestions? 2

PART 15 - THE NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP AWARDS COMPETITION In order to stimulate Regions to focus on membership recruitment, PCA established a National Membership Competition with a perpetual trophy, and cash awards to be presented at the Porsche Parade. The winner is determined by a formula with the Region having the highest index being the winner. A second category was later added to recognize the Region with the highest actual net growth. The National Membership Committee administers the contest. The Guidelines: 1. The Campaign year runs annually from January 1st to December 31st. 2. Your Region must have been chartered as of December 31 of the prior year to be eligible. (i.e., December 31, for Campaign Year January 1, December 31, ) 3. The cutoff date for receiving new member applications will be December 31st of each year. All applications and renewals for membership that expire on December 31 each year must be RECEIVED in the National Office by the close of business on that day. If the 31st falls on a weekend, then it is highly advisable to insure your membership applications reach the PCA National Office prior to that Friday. 4. Memberships received from all sources are eligible. This includes inquiries from our advertisements in various magazines, members brought in by existing members, the internet, etc. 5. Should a Region no longer be chartered during the course of a Membership Contest year, the starting count of the Region(s) gaining the territory of the dechartered Region will be adjusted to reflect the members from the transferred territory of the dechartered Region. 6. In the event a Region gives up territory for the creation of a new Region, the donor Region membership count, as of the start of the contest, will be adjusted downward by the number of members transferring to the new Region, at the time of its chartering, from the donor Region who were members of the donor Region at the time of the start of the membership contest. There are two categories: 1. The Index Category: The winner is determined by a formula which equalizes the opportunity for any Region to win for the Index Category and is calculated as follows: INDEX = Growth x ( x Beginning Size) + ( x the square root of Beginning Size) 2. The Actual Growth Category: The Region with the largest actual growth is the winner of the Actual Growth Category and is determined by the following formula: End size - Beginning Size = Actual Growth NOTE: A Region can only win one category in any given year. Should the same Region actually have both the largest actual growth and the highest index, they will be declared ineligible for one, and only awarded the trophy/prize for the other category. 20

PART 16 - THE BETTY JO TURNER AWARD FOR NEWSLETTER EXCELLENCE/THE PAUL HEINMILLER MEMORIAL TROPHY The Paul Heinmiller Memorial Trophy was previously awarded to the Region newsletter judged to be the most outstanding for the year, as part of the PCA Newsletter Contest. The Heinmiller Memorial Award was donated in by the Porsche+Audi Division of Volkswagen of America. Mr. Heinmiller was a past National Vice President. Under Mr. Heinmiller's leadership, PANORAMA became a professionally executed publication both in physical lay-out and graphic art, as well as in refinement of its contents. Almost every Region has members who belong to PCA because of PANORAMA and who continue to renew their memberships to receive what has become the finest single-marque, club-sponsored publication in the world. The Betty Jo Turner Newsletter Award was created in to recognize retiring PORSCHE PANORAMA Editor Betty Jo Turner. This award replaced the Paul Heinmiller Memorial Trophy, which was retired. Betty Jo earned a degree in music from Wesleyan College and first became aware of Porsches in She saw legendary Porsche racer Bob Holbert win at Virginia International Raceway and became an enthusiast. She later became active in reviving the Peachstate Region in the late 's, even hand painted name tags for the Region. She personally signed up actor Steve McQueen as a Peachstate member. Betty Jo was named Associate PORSCHE PANORAMA editor in December and wrote for PANORAMA in that capacity. She became Editor of PANORAMA in November At that time, it was just a page magazine, mostly in black and white, with limited color print. She continued the professional development of PANORAMA, as begun by Paul Heinmiller. Under her stewardship, the magazine evolved into a well-respected magazine with over pages per issue, coated, full-color covers, internal use of color, digital printing, yet is produced at less cost per member than any comparable magazine. PANORAMA has won numerous automotive journalism awards under her management. Porsche Factory executives read each month's issue. Betty Jo was adept at adopting new ideas for form and content and used demographic surveys to be responsive to the Club membership, producing a magazine which covers broader aspects of Porsche history and ownership, rather than just local Region activities. Not content to just write about Porsches, the garage of her and her husband, Leonard, have included a SC (daughter Lynn was partially raised in bassinet on its back deck), a , a Carrera, and multiple , , and examples. She has contributed to numerous articles and a book, wrote the historical introduction to Linda Lewis' book, The Fine Art of the Sports Car, and has served as a historical resource for both Porsche and PCA. Betty Jo made many personal friends within PCA, Porsche Cars North America, and the Porsche Factory, all of whom have provided considerable material for the magazine. She has conducted and published interviews with Porsche family members, including Ferry, Peter, Wolfgang, Butzi, and Gerd; factory executives (such as Ernst Furmann and Peter Schutz); engineers (such as Helmuth Bott), the legendary Husche von Hanstein, and many others, including PCA founder Bill Sholar. Betty Jo was first winner of Bill Sholar Award in , for outstanding contributions by a PCA National Staff member. She was named co-grand Marshal (along with the head of PCNA) for the Rennsport Reunion and was the keynote speaker. For the PCA Newsletter Contest, Regions compete in one of five classes, based on Region membership as of December 31st of the competition year. Basing the classes on Region membership is intended to ensure that Regions competing for the five separate class awards have reasonably equal resources. The Betty Jo Turner Award for Newsletter Excellence does not duplicate any of the class awards. The evaluation criteria are: Information and Navigation, Overall Layout & Appearance, Editorial Commentary, Event Publicity & Follow-Up, Photography and/or artwork (Illustrations, Clipart), Technical Articles & Automotive Tips, Availability in Digital Format to Members, Features & Article Contributions from Members, and General Scope and Variety. Top editors from around the country are selected to help with the judging of other Regions' newsletters. They assign scores for each category. Points are given for the number of issues published by the Region during the year. Once class winners have been decided, the top entry from each class is then re-evaluated by a second set of judges to determine the overall winner of the Betty Jo Turner Award for Newsletter Excellence. Wendy Shoffit is the National Newsletter Chair and may be reached for additional information at Santa Fe Trail, Irving, TX

PART 17 - THE PCA REGION & ZONE WEBSITE CONTEST Annually, PCA conducts a contest in which competing Region and Zone websites are judged for editorial excellence, design effectiveness, user friendliness, up-to-date content, and its usefulness to the Region and its members. The PCA Website Committee administers the contest. All PCA Regions and Zones are encouraged to participate and submit their websites for judging. Contest rules and guidelines will be published on the www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar website. Go to National Awards in the Forms & Documents section under Regions on www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar The deadline for entry submission is April 1, with judging in May. The current Website Contest is an on-line, web-form entry system, eliminating the prior unwieldy pdf. entry forms. Regions compete in one of five contest classes, based on membership size, according to the PCA national membership records as of December 31st of the specified year. 26 The scores from the judges will be totaled for each entry, and awards are given to the top finishers in each class, dependent upon the number of entries. Judges will provide written feedback and suggestions for improvement to each Webmaster who enters the contest. Because of the nature of the web, Webmasters may update their website's content and design at any point during the year, including the allotted judging period. However, the judges' scores are based on the Region website's online view, as the judge is scoring. Webmasters may not request the judging wait until a new feature is added, or an old one is deleted. These are the basic guidelines for the current year, but note that these recommendations are continually evolving. Web based communication is a fluid and dynamic force and Regions need to keep changing with it. Technologies are rapidly evolving, as are the expectations of our users. Webmasters need to continually monitor the pulse of the web and any trends and to stay current with the expectations of the visitors to the site. The PCA Best Overall Region Website Trophy is awarded to the Region website given the highest total score by the judges. This award does not duplicate any of the class winners. This will be for the website with the highest overall score, regardless of class. The best overall site will then be separated from its class and the next highest scoring site will be designed first in class, with all other ranked sites in class moving up one place. The PCA Best Overall Region Website perpetual trophy is retained at PCA headquarters, inscribed with each winning Region's name. A separate keeper trophy will be awarded to each winning Webmaster. Zone websites are not be eligible for this award. Finally, please remember the PCA website contest is designed as a contest among Regions for the purposes of comparison and friendly rivalry. Even carefully judged contests of this nature will be subjective. The real value of any Region website is to effectively serve its members, Region, and Zone.
