Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams
Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.
Welcome to the Microsoft Community.
We understand how you feel about the situation. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused.
Before we proceed, I need more information to help you better.
1. Have you installed all the pending updates and driver updates on your system?
2. Are you facing this issue on the Microsoft account or a local account?
3. Have you made any changes to your system, prior to this issue?
I suggest you to sign out from the current user account, restart the system and login to the either administrator account or the Microsoft account to check, if that helps.
Windows Update may have updated drivers available that may be relevant to your current issue. Many times, updated drivers are listed in the "Optional" section of Windows Update. Install any pending updates on the pc to check if that helps.
I suggest you to check for the status of the Windows Image Acquisition service in the Services Window and ensure that “Windows Image Acquisition” service is running.
Follow these steps below:
1. Press Windows + R keys to open Run command.
2. Type www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar in the search box on the run command and press Enter.
3. Search for Windows Image Acquisitionin the Services windows and look at the Status.
4. If the status of the service is stopped, then start the service by right clicking on the service and select Start.
I like to inform you that, you need to wait, until the status light turns green, to indicate that the scanner is ready to scan.
Your system may not work properly, if you use a USB cable, other than the one that came with your scanner.
The scanner may not work properly, when connected to the computer through more than one USB hub. Connect the scanner directly to the computer’s USB port or through one hub only.
The scanner may not work properly, when your computer is in a standby mode or sleep mode. Restart the system and the Epson Scan and try to scan again.
Some printers require the printer cartridges to be up-to-date and have not passed the expiry date, printed on the label, which the printer reads electronically.
Hope this information helps you. Kindly post back with the updated issue for further assistance.
Thank you.

I have done everything including uninstalling all Epson software and reinstalling. The Epson scan utility, "Cannot communicate with the scanner." However, if I install the EPSONCDEA6B (WorkForce ) driver from Devices and Printers, that is, Microsoft drivers, it will scan, though only save images--JPEG, etc.).
I need the flexibility of the Epson software. It's their Twain 32 driver, not Microsoft. However, that's a deal breaker. I'll have to revert to WIndows 7.

I've had the same problem since getting Windows
However, now there is a solution! :)
In mid-June of , Epson released a new driver that is written specifically for Windows
Go to the page linked below. (Be sure you download the driver dated in , and not the other one.
www.cronistalascolonias.com.ar
(I went through this entire process in the Spring of with no success. But, now, the new driver works!)
From the time that I began Net-searching (again) for a solution, through downloading the driver, and making a test scan, until posting this message was about one hour.

Well, alas!!
The above solution worked exactly one time. Then, it reverted to the same "cannot communicate with the scanner" error message as all the other times before.
I'm very frustrated.
