How to Open a PDF File With Yahoo Mail
The Portable Document Format makes it possible for you to open and view documents, no matter what operating system, software or computer you have. To make this happen in Yahoo Mail, the email program accesses a PDF reader program installed on your computer or other device. Double-clicking on the PDF attachment within your email should open it in your PDF reader automatically.
Restart Computer
If you are unable to open PDF attachments in Yahoo Mail, first try restarting your computer or device. Other programs might be interfering with Yahoo's ability to access your PDF reader program, and a simple reset can help solve this issue. Sign out of Yahoo and turn off your computer. Wait a few minutes, turn the computer back on, log back in to Yahoo Mail and try opening the PDF again.
PDF Viewer Check
If restarting the computer does not fix the problem, make sure that you have a PDF viewer installed. On a Windows computer, view installed programs by clicking on the Start menu and selecting "All Programs." The most common PDF readers are Adobe programs, including Adobe Reader, but others typically have "PDF" somewhere in their names.
Download Reader
If you don't see a PDF reader among your computer's programs, you'll need to download one to view PDF files. Adobe Reader is available for free, as are the Foxit and Nitro PDF readers. Once the reader is downloaded and installed, you might need to restart your computer to finish the installation. After that, try opening your PDF within Yahoo! Mail again.
Update Reader
If you do have a PDF reader installed but still have trouble opening PDFs, you might need to update the reader. Open your reader and look for an "About This Program" menu option. This will tell you which version of the program you are running. Use the reader's "Check for Updates" menu option, if it has one, or navigate to the manufacturer's website and look for any newer versions that might have been released. If you're running an older version, upgrade to the newer one and try to open your PDF once again.
