You’re now able to stream Moana on Disney+ wherever you’re connected to the internet. Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service is now available in the U.S. and Canada and will eventually be rolling out worldwide.

Disney+ is supported on desktop browsers, “a wide range” of mobile devices, smart TVs, and video-game consoles. The subscription-based platform will serve as the new home for Walt Disney Studios films as well as original, exclusive Disney+ content like Lucasfilm’s new Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, and a full slate of live-action Marvel shows.

What is Moana about?

Moana is the daughter of the chief of Motunui, an island village that subsists on fish and coconuts, where all are forbidden from sailing beyond the reef and into the larger ocean. One day, while Moana wades into the water as a small child, the ocean bestows on her the lost heart of Te Fiti, the mother-goddess who brought life to the seas. In ancient stories, an arrogant demigod called Maui lost the heart, turning Te Fiti into a destructive, volcanic demon.

When Moana’s grandmother falls ill and the fishermen begin returning empty-handed, Moana realizes that it’s her destiny to venture out into the ocean, find Maui, and restore Te Fiti’s heart to its rightful place.

Based on an early draft by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and featuring songs by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, this is one of the most inspiring animated pictures of the decade.

Moana stars Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, and Nicole Scherzinger.

“Jemaine Clement adds shifty panache to the monster crab Tamatoa, a crustacean Gollum who’s obsessed with treasure. For her first big acting gig, Cravalho brings the right amount of naivete and spunk to Moana, whose narrative is mostly a welcome respite from the usual princess story line,” USA Today’s Brian Truitt said in his review. “While Moana isn’t officially a musical, somebody’s probably already thinking Broadway. Comparable to the best of Disney’s song-filled cartoons (Little Mermaid, Frozen, et al.), the new film has a strong melodic bent because of Miranda, who might as well be Alan Menken ”
