Firefox: Private, Safe Browser 17+

Fast and Secure Web Browsing

Mozilla

    Description

When it comes to your life online, you have a choice: accept the factory settings or put your privacy first. When you choose Firefox as your default browser, you’re choosing to protect your data while supporting an independent tech company. Firefox is also the only major browser backed by a non-profit fighting to give you more openness, transparency and control of your life online. Join hundreds of millions of people who choose to protect what's important by choosing Firefox.

    FAST. PRIVATE. SAFE.
Keep what’s personal private without sacrificing speed. With Firefox, you can have more control to decide what to share online and when, because your life is your business. We designed Firefox with smart browsing features that let you take your privacy, passwords, and bookmarks with you safely wherever you go.

    MAKE FIREFOX YOUR OWN
With the release of iOS 14, you can now make Firefox your go-to, get-it-done, default browser. And with Firefox widgets, you can jump right to searching the web or using private browsing mode straight from your phone’s home screen.

PRIVACY CONTROL IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES
Firefox gives you greater privacy protection while you’re on the web. By default, our Enhanced Tracking Protection blocks trackers and scripts such as social media trackers, cross-site cookie trackers, cryptominers and fingerprinters. In addition to Apple’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP), setting Firefox’s Enhanced Tracking Protection to strict blocks tracking content in all windows. Also, you can easily choose to search in Private Browsing Mode. And when you close Private Browsing Mode, your browsing history and any cookies are automatically erased from your device.

OWN YOUR LIFE WHEREVER YOU INTERNET
Add Firefox across your devices for secure, seamless browsing. Sync your devices to take your favorite bookmarks, saved logins and browsing history wherever you go. Send open tabs between mobile and desktop. And Firefox makes password management easy by remembering your passwords across devices. Take your internet life everywhere, knowing that your data is safe, never sold.

FIND IT FAST WITH FIREFOX’S SEARCH BAR
Get search suggestions in the Search Bar and quickly access the sites you visit most. Type in your search question, and get suggested and previously searched results across your favorite search engines. And choose which search provider you want as your default, including Wikipedia, Twitter and Amazon (not all search providers support search suggestions).

ORGANIZE YOUR TABS THE WAY YOU LIKE
Create as many tabs as you like without losing track. Firefox displays your open tabs as thumbnails and numbered tabs, making it easy to find what you want quickly. Pro-tip: with a Firefox Account, you can send an open tab on one device to all your others with a single tap.

DISCOVER MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE
Find and share great content across your devices. Open a new tab in your web browser to see the sites you visit most, your recent bookmarks and popular articles on Pocket. Firefox gives you quick access to your most recently used sites to help you get where you’re going fast, without hassle.

SHARE ANYTHING IN A FEW TAPS
The Firefox web browser makes it easy to share links to web pages or specific items on a page with easy, quick access to your most recently used apps like Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and more.

    Made permanent switch from Google

I have tried to switch before but never fully committed to it due to minor inconveniences and old habits, but now I’ve been using Firefox on all my devices for a month and I think it will stick this time.
I decided to make the switch because Google basically uses its products to spy on us and force feed us poorly targeted ads. The last straw was reading about a disease on Wikipedia out of curiosity, and then suddenly I’m seeing ads everywhere for drugs for this disease that I don’t have. Just because I read about something doesn’t mean I have any interest in buying products for it. I also bought a mattress a few months ago and keep seeing ads for mattresses, which I obviously no longer need because I already made the purchase. The same thing happened when I bought a car last year.
I have also started using DuckDuckGo as my default search engine.
Still looking for a decent alternative to Google Maps and Gmail.

    Horrible User Experience

I have used Firefox on and off now for a span of seven years, and I keep checking in to see if they fixed their terrible bookmark UX, and I am disappointed every time. Let me go into detail. For as long as I can remember, the most frustrating aspect of mobile Firefox is accessing bookmarks. Too many taps!! There should be a library icon on the navigation bar at the bottom, you tap ONCE and it shows you your bookmarks. More specifically the user should be able to customize what bookmarks they want to see right up front. For me, all my bookmarks live in the Bookmarks toolbar. I never put bookmarks into the Bookmarks menu - I mean, does anyone? Second point, right now when you tap the menu and tap “Your Library” it slides up this pane which displays your bookmarks, great - however, it’s super annoying to dismiss. If you don’t land your finger exactly on the right spot and swipe down, you end up swiping something else. There should be a “Done” element or some other way to dismiss that pane other than swiping. Even tapping on the gray swipe element to dismiss would be ok. I really love what Mozilla is doing with Firefox, with emphasis on security and privacy, but their UX/UI needs some serious attention. Even the desktop browser looks dated and has issues. These things wouldn’t bother your average user that much, but as a UX/UI designer myself - it grinds my gears.

    Needs some clean up.

I been using Firefox and it’s relatives such as Sea Monkey and so forth since they were first made available to the Public and in many cases in alpha/beta back than and in time on most all platforms supported officially or not. During my career I became a huge privacy advocate. That said, I have to seriously question any company/organization who professes to be a privacy supporter and who puts services in their products from companies like Google and others. It has been many years now Google stated they do or will know you better than you do yourself (anyone that uses Google services willing or not). To better understand what is meant here read Google’s privacy policy, make note to where it says they record everything created on/through their services including email received in gmail and sent from there. Additionally, it defies logic why again any company claiming to support privacy would add support to their products to track your physical location and last I checked it is on by default (geo might not exist on mobile or it is hidden). I expect this from M$ since all their spying mechanisms are on by default (windows 10) and there are many, some cannot be turned off completely. Back in the beginning of Firefox I do not feel the development team would have ever added such things.
