PS4, in Rest Mode, Plugged Off While Downloading an Overwatch Update
My brother accidentally plugged off the PS4 while it's downloading the Halloween Update for Overwatch during rest mode. This left me scarred for hours. I turned the console on hoping it's fine, the PS4 only gave me that warning as usual and the update restarted downloading. Now, I want to ask if this will actually cause any real damage (fatal or not). What will happen to my games and saves on my PS4? Can this mean instant corrupted data? Please help!

People have had their power go out when their system was in rest mode downloading something. It’s obviously not recommended but it happening on rare occasions isn’t a cause for alarm. Especially if it was just downloading. If it was installing and the power went out that would be worse but if it’s downloading it just interrupts the download which will resume the next time you get the system back up and running again.

@RogueViperStorm I'm sure because it's just an update, you weren't' exactly saving a game at that point your brother turned off the PS4 especially considering it was on rest mode. There's nothing to worry about however don't let that happen too often because shutting the PS4 whilst its doing something can most likely damage it badly, possibly bricking it and having to send it to the store for repair (or worse case scenario a replacement)

Downloading has nothing to do with the operation of the system. If it was turned off during an install, then you might have to worry. Even then, if the system turns back on and works like normal, then no real damage was done

If it powers off unexpectedly when it's installing an update, it might break the application that's installing, but in that case you can delete and reinstall - it might be annoying, but not harmful to the system.
If it powers off unexpectedly while saving, it might ruin a save file. If you have a backup in the PS Plus cloud storage space, then you can get that back, otherwise you've probably lost a save - again, annoying, but not harmful to the system.
If it powers off unexpectedly while installing a system update, then it might have to repair itself and might even need the system software reinstalled from the recovery menu. There's some small chance that it could brick the machine, which is always the case with software updates on every machine, but it'll almost always be recoverable.
