If you find you're struggling with slow, intermittent or failing internet connections in Windows 10, don't despair. There are some fixes you can attempt to resolve patchy internet in Windows
The steps we're recommending below will adjust your DNS settings in Windows This may feel a little technical, but don't be put off - it's easily done following the steps below.
The DNS (Domain Name Server) is typically set automatically on your computer. Think of it as an address lookup between computers, allowing your PC to access the internet. By changing it yourself, you can create a workaround to fix internet issues in Windows
Change the DNS to fix internet connection problems
- Open the Network and Sharing Centreby right-clicking the network symbol in the bottom-right corner of your screen, then select Open Network and Sharing Centre.
- Click on the name of your internet connection - this will typically be your home wi-fi network (Which, in our example below), but it may say Local Area Network. Select Properties in the window that opens.
- In the new window that opens, click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to highlight it, and then click the Properties button again.
- Now it's time to manually change the DNS settings. Tick the box next to Use the following DNS server addresses. As a fix, we're going to suggest using the Google Public DNS addresses - that's 8 8 8 8 in the Preferred DNS server, and 8 8 4 4 in the Alternative DNS server.
- Confirm the changes by clicking OK. Finally, restart your computer to see if this has resolved your internet problems.
