How do I view / download documents in Canvas

Click pencil icon to edit file or folder name. Click trash can icon to delete file or folder. Each course space has MB of storage space. It is NOT recommended. Instructors can easily link to any file uploaded to their Canvas Files tool in any any Canvas text box (Syllabus, Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, Pages)

Click on the tool that contains the Canvas text box you want to link the file (Syllabus, Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, Pages)

Click Edit

This displays the rich text editing box.

Click on the "More" icon (vertical dots) and select the Documents icon then select "Course Documents"

This displays an "Add" panel on the right displaying all of the Files uploaded to the course site Files tool

Select the file you want to link from the list

This automatically creates a link in the text box to the file in the Files tool

Note: If you plan to display the file with inline preview (see below) the Add panel must be set to search "Documents".

Highlight the link, then click on Options

This displays the Link Options panel on the right

Checkmark "Automatically open an in-line preview. (Preview displays only after saving)", then click Done

Depending which tool you are using, click "Update Syllabus" or "Save" or "Save/Publish" or "Post"

This will automatically display an inline preview of the document in the tool.
