This is a big drawback. Pretty sneaky. Developers slowly trying to get out of the physical media arena. Problem is now the collector value is going way down. It's already going to make me buy less PS4 games. As a matter of fact, when PS3 games go down even more, I'll be happy to get even more of those. I'm really not happy about what their motives are and am uncomfortable. I'm already disappointed and my PS4 hasn't even arrived yet. After opening my games, I noticed there were no manuals. It's completely disappointing. For all the non collectors, this thread isn't for you, you will never relate to me.

Well, this just pushes me further back to previous consoles. Funny how the more consoles come out, the more people seem to go backwards. There is a reason for that. Really don't like the way this is heading at all. I mean they come with a case but not a manual. That's incomplete. Why not just make them digital since you're not giving us complete media? I don't care if we don't always read the manuals. By not having them, I'll buy far less.

It's like telling gamers that they're not going to focus on graphics anymore. Graphics don't matter. Because there is no reason to improve graphics, since that takes more time and money to do. Lol, gamers never appreciate them anyways and complain! They might as well save costs and just make simple games like Frogger, right? Hell, just get rid of games completely! That will cut everyone the time and the cost. Nobody needs it.. Sadly, this may happen. Gaming will end as we know it to be. Because of things like this.

They can suck a phat one. This pisses me off and if they still make money then good for them. But I speak for many who say they will get out of modern gaming once they push this BS too far. The way they are going, just cut out gaming completely! You don't want boxes anymore? Discs? heck just get ride of consoles, get rid of the games altogether. No psn, no digital, nothing. Just ask customers to send in money for nothing. That's what you're starting to do!!!

Having no manual? This is the biggest joke ever!!!!! I might just get rid of my PS

This started last gen. I first noticed it in some games and later in some EA PS3 games.

It's just spreading to current gen.

It's kinda creepy and awkward. These come with manual ''holders'' but no manuals. Gives you the feel of getting ripped off. It's like they are doing it more to test us and prove to us we don't need it. So why are they making boxes? Next, the boxes will have no artwork on the back. They are slowly trying to get us used to this. Total Bullshit. They just want your money, they don't care about our experience.

I remember when there used to be not just manuals, but small booklets with story backgrounds and concept art etc included with the game. And without having to spend more for "Collectors Edition". There was no special or collectors editions, publishers gave everyone this stuff.

I think my biggest game manual I ever had was for Falcon 4. It was a few hundred pages in a special binder.

And consoles are becoming more like PC's. If they keep on becoming more and more like them, I think they will lose the battle. Why? Because soon there will be nothing special about consoles. Some say that now and I can see why. Obviously they aren't doing the things that make them unique. It's sad. I never cared a lick about consoles, but when the day comes where there is no more physical media, maybe PC's will be the way to go. Consoles will become a thing of the past, their own fault though. They stopped doing the things that made them unique in the first place. Even cd's have booklets. The games should have booklets that detail the story and a complete character profile. This is BS. I am sooo pissed off about this. It's not even that I need the manual to play, but this represents cheapness and lackluster effort. Absolutely horrible. A joke. A joke's joke. So pissed. I might just send the PS4 back when it comes just because there are no manuals. For 60 bucks a game, they can't include a manual? I feel totally jipped and stupid to partake in this.

Who actually reads them? I mean seriously, do you need them? The system is easy to set up and use

More games are going to in-game manuals. While they used to be nice to have, there seem to be enough Tutorials built into games that the manual wouldn't really teach me anything new. I understand the angst from a collector's point of view though.

well there really is no use for game manuals these daystutorials are at the beginning of the game and there is youtube/ gamefaqs for any other questions. weve come a very long from the nes era where manuals are absolutely necessary

Whatever to save a few cents, I guess. But I'll always go with physical if it's the better price, which is most of the time. I suppose it's too bad, but I honestly rarely looked at the things. Some games put good effort into having a nice manual like Fallout 3 for one random example that comes to mind.

I want to LOOK at them. I want to hold them. I want to collect them. You don't understand me and I can't understand why you can't understand me. Why do you act like it's not an issue for a collector? Without the manual, what am I getting?

Both of you have point. Firstly it would be nice to open a game and actually see more than a disc and some paper cutouts of PS+ 30 day trial etc, especially with the cost of the games. Secondly games these days have more hand holding and onscreen tips thus eliminating manuals.
I would love it if they introduce a system where some DLC codes are provided as a courtesy of actually buying a new physical product. It can be done because the code is linked to your account and cannot be reused if you traded in the game.
I remember buying Infamous Second Son and getting a Beanie. Now if only a game would provide me some slippers I would be set. Silent Hill would come with underpants for when you crap yourself.

I remember some game having slippers as pre-order bonus, not sure if it was worldwide thing or only Australia, but the slippers were white and fluffy.
