The data was used to create Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (NSDNR) Open File Maps OFM ME to , compiled by S.M. Barr and C. E. White, The digital product was created by the NSDNR, Geoscience and Mines Branch (GMB) staff. The digital product contains layers for geological features such as: anticlines/synclines, coal seams, areas of concentrated drilling, drillholes, faults, bedrock geologic units, geological contacts, mineral occurrences, neatline, small outcrops, reference outlines, structural data, and terrane boundaries. Purpose: The purpose of this project is to produce a digital dataset containing data compiled by numerous sources for the bedrock geology of Cape Breton Island, and produce a series of scale geological bedrock maps of Cape Breton Island. Data Quality InformationPositional AccuracyHorizontal Accuracy Report: There may be positional accuracy errors in the digital data that come from the original data collection, plus there are errors added by the process of digitizing the features from the original published source maps or field maps. The transfer of this data from older base maps onto the current base maps may also produce some error. The user should be aware that using this data overlaid on topographic data that was not used during the digital capture of the data may result in apparent errors in the locations of the data that may or may not be real. The user should always try and use background topographic data that is the same as the source topographic data noted in this metadata.
