In the downloads section of MyVMware, the VSphere full client executable is listed as is the VMWare Tools ISO. But the core ESXi ISO installer is no where to be found (see attached screen shot). Is this some sort of licensing registration thing? I had though ESXi was free?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You download the vSphere Full, then register for a free registration key.
Go to View Downloads and Products. Click the All Products Tab.
To the right of "VMware vSphere" click "View Download Components"
Top left there is a drop down box for the version. Change it to if that's what you want.. (Or go with the current )
You should see "VMware ESXi Update 2" Click go to downloads.
You should see a download option for "ESXi Update 2 Driver Rollup (Includes VMware Tools)"
If that doesn't work, login and click this link.

Hopefully that covers both fish options.
This doesnt work anymore. If you dont have a license or permission to download the then you are stuck with the version. Trust me, I tried the whole weekend. It will give you an error saying you are not authorized and you have to click Register which forces you to
Actually, from looking at your screenshot, the Update 1 is the full version but includes the update.
I do trust you, however I've run into transient issues downloading things form their portal before, so it's possible it's a temporary issue. For example I was unauthorized to download VMware converter for several days. Wrap your head around that one. :)
6 is stable and resolves a lot of issues with E adapters and purple screen of death antics that happened in
There is no real reason to be using
Mynameisjona is correct. I have tried every which way but loose to get Even registered with a new account and tried to eval. As for the screenshot, that is just the Client, no ISO installer.
Toby - what about compatibility to migrate older VMs running on ESXi ? This client does have some of these, so I had figured the a two-full-version jump might be too much. Also, are there any RAM or CPU limitations in ESXi 6 versus ?
Thanks for your help.
BTW - since this is an older DELL server (R), I found a custom image:

But I am not sure if the free license key will work.
There is no direct upgrade from vSphere 4 to 6 so you are rebuilding the host (quicker/cleaner anyway)
It should be running on a USB key anyway, probably uses increments more of RAM but overhead on these resources is from guest VMs not the hypervisor
But if you are running v4 how old is the host!?
Migrating VMs from 4 to 6 - can't say I have ever done the jump that fartest test test is your best option

Depends, a lot of hardware that worked in 5.x no longer works in 6. I've got a lot of white box test/dev and home boxes that are pretty much e-waste if I move to Yes, the hardware is not on the HCL, but they've run stable for years.
